FNQ Combined Meetings

Everything You Need To Know

FNQ Combined Meetings happen once a year to bring together all the Far Northern Garden Clubs to share ideas, plant knowledge, listen to guest speakers, and enjoy fun and fellowship through gardening.

Planning the Meeting

Months before the scheduled meeting date the host club starts preparations. They have to:

  • organise the hall for the meeting,

  • look for local businesses and nurseries to donate prizes for the raffles to be run on the day,

  • remind members to prepare good quality plants,

  • ask members to volunteer for the many jobs needed including some to help run the kitchen and organise the food that the members contribute.

  • Guest speakers also have to be organised as they help to make an interesting and fun day.

Who attends

These meetings are held once a year by a far northern club. These clubs include:

  • Tablelands Garden Group

  • Millaa Millaa Garden Club

  • Innisfail Garden Club

  • Tully Garden Club

  • Mossman Garden Club

  • Cairns Garden Club

When & Where

This meeting always takes place on a Sunday and the host club does its best to find a date that suits all the clubs that are coming. Guests arrive early to buy their raffle tickets and partake of the lovely morning tea. There is a short general meeting to start with where the clubs present their reports for the year followed by a guest speaker. Running plant raffles are held throughout the day until it's time for lunch and the next guest speaker. Following this is the last of the raffles and afternoon tea for members before they depart for home.
